Fire Prevention Week – What You Need to Know
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has designated October 9-15, 2016 as Fire Prevention Week. This year, the theme focuses on the importance of replacing smoke alarms every 10 years, as well as being aware of your smoke alarms’ production date.
This is the third year in a row that smoke alarms are the main theme of Fire Prevention Week. This is because, according to NFPA’s survey data, many people don’t know how old their smoke alarms are and how often to replace them. In keeping with the theme, NFPA recommends that you find the date of manufacture on the back of alarms and keep note of it. Replace them if they’re more than 10 years old. A new activity during this year’s Fire Prevention Week is a photo contest for fire departments wherein entrants will vie for the chance to receive a professional photo shoot for the cover of NFPA’s 2017 Fire Prevention Week catalog.
